Mauro Tassotti says that he would welcome Davide Santon's return to Italian football but believes that AC Milan do not need him as they have Mattia De Sciglio.

AC Milan assistant coach Mauro Tassotti believes that Davide Santon's return to Serie A would be "good for Italian football".

The 22-year-old full-back, who joined Newcastle United from Inter Milan in August 2011, has been linked with a move to the Rossoneri in January.

"I know that Santon was a promising youngster and I don't think he has lost those qualities," Tassotti told Sky Sport Italia. "It would be good for Italian football to have him back in the country.

"Mattia De Sciglio has always been comfortable on his right or his left foot. He has grown a great deal and is an important player for our squad."

Santon has featured in all 22 Premier League matches for Newcastle this season.
