Massimo Ambrosini insists that AC Milan are still great, despite the recent departures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva.

AC Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini has insisted that the club is still "great" following the recent departures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva.

The duo have each left the San Siro in the past week for Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth a reported £51m.

Despite their exits Ambosini believes that the Rossoneri will still challenge for honours this season.

"Milan might be in a state of transition, but we are still great," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"I might not know what will happen next, but each year changes have to be made because we players aren't eternal beings.

"It's not only Milan who have to make inevitable shifts. You might even look at Barcelona, or at Manchester United. Do you think even they will be spared from eventual change?"

Ambrosini has made over 300 appearances for Milan since joining from Cesena in 1995.
