Massimiliano Allegri confirms AC Milan departure at end of season

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri confirms that he will leave the Italian club when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that he will leave the Italian club when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

The 46-year-old, who has led Milan through a tough period in recent times, announced the decision during a newspaper interview last week and has now confirmed it with further comments about his impending departure.

"I spoke to [Milan CEO Adriano] Galliani prior to Christmas about the decision to leave the club in June," Allegri told reporters.

"It's only in Italy where all the fuss is made. Yesterday Bayern Munich announced the arrival of [Robert] Lewandowski from a rival team and that should become normal in Italy as well.

"We're professional and we have to work well to the end of the contract. I've had four years here and I thank president [Silvio] Berlusconi, Adriano Galliani and the club for having given me the chance to lead an important team."

Milan currently sit in 13th position in Serie A on 19 points.
