AC Milan coach Massimilano Allegri describes Mario Balotelli as an "excellent professional" after his brace in today's home win against Palermo.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri believes that Mario Balotelli now has the perfect platform to prove himself at the top level.

Balotelli kept his up his excellent start to life at the San Siro by scoring twice this afternoon as Milan edged Palermo 2-0 to stay third in Serie A.

Allegri thinks that Balotelli can call upon his experience on the international stage to help a young Milan side develop over the next few seasons.

He told Sky Italia: "I think this is an important opportunity for Balotelli, as for the first time he is playing as a protagonist in a team full of youngsters.

"He is relaxed and an excellent professional. He has been on the European stage for seven or eight years, but this is his best chance so far to really show his qualities.

"We struggled a little today as we had some residual fatigue from Tuesday's Champions League game with Barcelona, but we should've been more confident and better at keeping the ball."

Milan are just two points behind Napoli in second as the race for Champions League places in Serie A gathers pace.
