Massimiliano Allegri rues missed AC Milan chances

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri says that his side could have won last night's Champions League encounter with PSV Eindhoven.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri believes that his side had enough chances to win last night's Champions League playoff first leg against PSV Eindhoven.

Stephan El Shaarawy put the Rossoneri ahead in the 14th minute, but Slovenian striker Tim Matavz scored on the hour mark to see the teams finish level at the Philips Stadion.

"It's a shame, as we had so many chances to seal the win even after the equaliser, so now it's all open ahead of the second leg," Football Italia quotes Allegri as saying.

"If we had won and especially with a two-goal cushion then we would be looking at this match differently. Now we have to think about Saturday's Serie A opener with [Hellas] Verona and only after that worry about the second leg."

Allegri had backed El Shaarawy to rediscover his goal-scoring touch and said that the precocious talent was always going to have a dip in form.

"Stephan scored a great goal this evening," he added. "He had an amazing first half of last season and for a 20-year-old it was inevitable he could pay the price for that.

"He can't possibly be like that all the time at his age. When young, a few blows helps players to grow up and realise to be in a top club you have to notch up years of experience at the highest level rather than just a few months."

The next leg takes place at the San Siro next Wednesday.
