Preview: Aberdeen vs. St Mirren - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between Aberdeen and St Mirren, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aberdeen are fresh from ending their three-match losing streak and they will now be aiming for consecutive victories on Saturday when they host St Mirren.

The visitors are without a win in their previous seven fixtures and currently sit just four points above the relegation zone.

Aberdeen got back to winning ways on Wednesday when they were able to defeat Livingston 2-0, which was a result that sunk the Lions into the bottom two.

This also marked the first time the Dons had kept a clean sheet within their previous six performances, with Ryan Hedges and David Bates getting on the scoresheet.

It was their first win in three matches which helped get the team back on track, but they remain in the bottom half of the table at the moment.

With just a point separating them and St Mirren, this is an important fixture for Aberdeen as they will be keen to continue putting pressure on the teams above, rather than looking over their shoulder.

The last time they faced the Buddies it led to a five-goal thriller, but the Dons fell short in the end as they lost 3-2 and finished the match with 10 men.

That is a result that Jim Goodwin would be pleased to see take place again due to the poor form that his team are suffering right now, having gone seven games without a victory.

A big problem for them has been in scoring goals as the Buddies have found the back of the net just once in their previous five fixtures, which has led to them struggling to pick up points.

St Mirren have had difficulties against teams below them during this run, having failed to win against Dundee, Livingston and most recently Ross County.

Goodwin's men competed against the Staggies at the weekend, but they were unable to break the deadlock, despite the fact they had 27 shots throughout the game, which eventually ended 0-0.

Draws are something that the squad have been dealing with a lot lately, with four of their most recent six fixtures seeing them share the spoils, but they now need to turn those into victories if they hope to climb the table.

Team News

Scott Brown was able to overcome his hamstring problem to start for Aberdeen in midweek and the experienced midfielder should start once again.

Funso Ojo returned for the Dons as well at full-back and after keeping a clean sheet against Livingston it is unlikely the back four will be altered.

St Mirren will still be without Joe Shaughnessy as he remains suspended and that should lead to Kyle McAllister retaining his place in the team.

Kristian Dennis was also brought into the starting lineup to start up front and that is something that could also continue, providing an attacking threat.

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Lewis; Ojo, McCrorie, Bates, Hayes; Ferguson, Brown, Emmanuel-Thomas; Hedges, Watkins, Ramirez

St Mirren possible starting lineup:
Alnwick; Tait, Dunne, Fraser; McAllister, Ronan, Power, Tanser, McGrath; Dennis, Brophy

We say: Aberdeen 2-1 St Mirren

There is little to separate the two teams in the league at the moment and that is something that will likely be reflected in this fixture.

However, with the Buddies lacking in confidence due to their poor form as of late, this could be an opportunity for Aberdeen to earn another three points.
