Result: Italy's Daniele Meucci wins gold in European Championships marathon

Daniele Meucci of Italy finishes almost a minute clear of the field in a new personal-best time to win men's marathon gold at the European Championships in Zurich.

The 28-year-old set a new personal best of 2:11.08 to finish almost a minute clear of the field.

"We are working on Italy continuing to write marathon history," Meucci told reporters. "This is only my fourth marathon. I never looked at the time, at the pace. I only looked at my competitors and at my own sensations."

Poland's Yared Shegumo took the silver [2:12.00], while Aleksey Reunkov of Russia [2:12.15] claimed bronze.
