Arizona Cardinals cruise to victory over San Francisco 49ers

The Arizona Cardinals dominate the San Francisco 49ers to cruise to a 47-7 win in their NFC West clash at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

Two touchdowns each from Larry Fitzgerald and Chris Johnson have fired the Arizona Cardinals to a commanding 47-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in their NFC West clash.

The Cardinals took the lead when Colin Kaepernick searched for his receiver down the right sideline and Justin Bethel made the leaping grab for the interception and returned the ball 21 yards for the touchdown.

Arizona extended their advantage with a carbon-copy play, but this time Tyrann Mathieu jumped in front of the pass, intended for Anquan Boldin, to make the interception and return the ball for a 33-yard score.

Bruce Arians's men compounded their lead as Carson Palmer drove his side to the goalline and Johnson powered through for the touchdown.

The 35-year-old continued his fine form with another throw to John Brown to move the Cardinals to the goalline, and Johnson notched his second score of the match when he raided over for a one-yard touchdown.

Jarryd Hayne sparked his team into life with a punt return to move the 49ers into the redzone, and Kaepernick completed the score when he ran the ball around the left side of the line from 12 yards.

However, Kaepernick threw his third interception of the game as Mathieu picked off the quarterback again. The pick allowed Palmer to drive his side within field-goal range and Chandler Catanzaro fired his kick through the posts to hand his side a 24-point advantage at the break.

In the second half, the Cardinals put the game beyond doubt when Palmer completed several passes to move his side within striking distance once again. He then fired to the endzone for Fitzgerald to complete the score.

Arians's side then added a safety when a punt from Drew Butler backed up the 49ers to the one-yard line and Kevin Minter powered through the line to drop Carlos Hyde inside his own endzone.

Fitzgerald recorded his second score of the match to complete the rout when he collected a short pass from Palmer and ran into the endzone for an eight-yard touchdown.
