Werder Bremen earn late point

Nils Petersen scores an 88th-minute equaliser in controversial circumstances to earn Werder Bremen a late point at home to Nuremburg.

Werder Bremen equalised two minutes from time in controversial circumstances to deny Nuremberg an away win.

The home side shaded a tight first half and came closest to breaking the deadlock through Kevin de Bruyne.

Nuremberg grew in confidence after the break, with second-half substitute Robert Mak driving the visitors forward.

With the match heading for a goalless draw ten minutes from time Nuremberg made the breakthrough on the counter.

Timo Gebhart cut inside and curled home a measured finish to beat Sebastian Mielitz from just inside the penalty area.

Bremen poured forward and managed to level two minutes from time when De Bruyne's strike from distance took a big deflection off Nils Petersen and beat Raphael Schafer.

The Nuremberg players surrounded the linesman, believing that Petersen was in an offside position when he guided the ball home, but the goal stood to leave the match all square.
