Swansea City have secured a point against West Ham United following a 1-1 draw in this afternoon's Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

The hosts carved out the first opening of the game within the first five minutes as Bafetimbi Gomis charged into the box to meet Nathan Dyer's cross, but he could not quite connect.

Swansea imposed themselves on their opponents with a number of tough challenges, with Ashley Williams clashing with Andy Carroll and Enner Valencia in the space of a few minutes.

Chances, however, remained at a premium, with Carl Jenkinson firing well over the crossbar midway through the first half and Kevin Nolan seeing his effort from the edge of the box land on the roof of the Swans net moments later.

Towards the end of the first half, the hosts had a few threatening forays into the box, as Neil Taylor tried his luck from 20 yards to no avail, before Adrian had to be called into action to twice thwart Gylfi Sigurdsson.

However, the Hammers broke the deadlock just before half time when Carroll controlled on his chest, powered through a crowd of defenders and lashed a left-footed shot into the top corner.

Swansea nearly equalised after the restart as Gomis laid the ball off to Sigurdsson, but the midfielder's curling effort flew wide of the post.

The visitors then had two good chances to put the game to bed just before the hour when Carroll arrived to meet Jenkinson's ball before firing wide, moments before James Collins's towering header also came close.

West Ham would rue those missed chances because, in the 74th minute, Gomis met Sigurdsson's corner to power a header towards goal, which cannoned off the post before striking Mark Noble and bouncing into the net.

Swansea found themselves under siege in the latter stages of the game, with Lukasz Fabianski having to pull off a series of smart saves against a Hammers side intent on clawing back their lead.

Nevertheless, Garry Monk's charges were able to hang on until the final whistle as the two European hopefuls had to be content with a share of the spoils.
