Tottenham Hotspur announce the signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon on loan with an obligation to buy.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon on loan with an obligation to buy.

The former Manchester City youngster becomes Spurs' second arrival of the winter window after Arnaut Danjuma, and his move will become permanent on a five-and-a-half-year deal at the end of the season.

Porro leaves Sporting only one year after joining permanently from Man City, having previously spent two years on loan with Ruben Amorim's side and winning the Primeira Liga title in 2021.

Tottenham were believed to have been closing in on a deal to sign the Spain international over the weekend, but a move was plunged into doubt after Sporting reneged on the terms.

Porro - who had appeared to wave his goodbyes to Sporting fans in the weekend's Taca da Liga defeat to Porto - was said to be "distraught" at the collapse, but Spurs chiefs managed to reach a full agreement not long after.

Tottenham are believed to have forked out a €45m (£39.7m) fee to sign Porro, who leaves Sporting after amassing 12 goals and 20 assists from 98 appearances in all tournaments.

The 23-year-old left Girona in 2019 to sign for Man City, but he spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Real Valladolid and did not play a single game for the Premier League champions.

Porro arrives in North London following the exits of Djed Spence and Matt Doherty, the former of whom has joined Joe Rodon at Rennes for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Meanwhile, Doherty's contract was terminated in order to allow the Irishman to sign for Atletico Madrid, with Tottenham unable to sanction any further loan exits in the January window.

As a result, Porro will directly compete with Emerson Royal for the right-wing back spot in Tottenham's XI, and he could make his debut against former club Man City on Sunday in the Premier League.
