Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly halting new contract talks with many players at the club, as they await to know where the future of the club lies.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly halting all contract talks with players at many levels in the club, with multiple players out of contract in the summer.

The Owls started this season with an initial 12-point deduction, for breaching rules surrounding the sale of Hillsborough, which was later reduced to six points.

Darren Moore's side have struggled to make the deficit of points up and currently sit 23rd in the Championship, knowing that a loss to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night and a Derby County win will relegate Wednesday with three games still to play.

According to The Star, neither club nor the players are willing to commit at this time, but the club expect contract talks to accelerate next month when they know where their future lies.

Wednesday will have until the third Saturday in May to notify any players that they wish to renew their contracts, with integral players such as Tom Lees and Adam Reach amongst others out of contract.

Relegation to League One will end a nine-year stay in the second tier of English football, having been promoted from League One in 2012.
