Sheffield United too strong for Peterborough United

Ben Davies and Chris Porter are on target for Sheffield United as they get the better of Peterborough United 2-0 at home in League One.

Sheffield United have registered a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United at Bramall Lane in League One.

The Blades created the first chance of the game after five minutes when Shaun Miller's close-range shot was saved, but moments later Danny Swanson tried his luck from distance for the visitors.

Josh McQuoid also failed to keep his long-range effort on target for Peterborough, for whom goalkeeper Robert Olejnik had to be alert to keep out Stephen McGinn's attempt midway through the first half.

McGinn was unlucky not to put the hosts in the lead eight minutes before the interval when his right-footed shot from outside the Posh's penalty area hit the post.

Then two minutes into the second half United surged ahead when Ben Davies found the top left corner with a right-footed free kick.

McGinn came close again just minutes later, while Conor Coady and Ryan Flynn also made attempts to double Nigel Clough's side's advantage.

It eventually become 2-0 to United two minutes from full time when Chris Porter scored from close range after collecting Coady's pass.

The eighth successive win in all competitions for the Blades lifts them up to 10th in the League One table, while Peterborough are now sixth.
