Brentford score late in each half to edge past Rotherham United

Andre Gray's goal in first-half stoppage time and Nick Proschwitz's strike deep into second-half injury time hand Brentford a 2-0 victory at Rotherham United.

Andre Gray and Nick Proschwitz goals deep into injury time at the end of both halves gave Brentford a 2-0 victory away at Rotherham United this afternoon.

The visitors had the first chance of the game as Gray forced Adam Collin into a strong save with a curling effort from 20 yards.

Two minutes later, Kirk Broadfoot rattled the crossbar with a powerful header before David Button pushed Ben Pringle's rebound over the bar.

Matt Derbyshire sent a long-range strike over the bar as the game entered a bit of a lull after a frenetic opening, while Alex Pritchard sent a diving header over the bar following a deep cross by Alan Judge.

Judge continued to be a source of danger for the away side and flashed a shot just wide of the far post after a neat one-two with a teammate.

Rotherham were unlucky not to take the lead on the stroke of half time when Paul Taylor's powerful drive cannoned back off the bar and just two minutes later, the visitors put themselves ahead.

Gray collected the ball as the Bees counter-attacked the home side and sent a curling shot around the diving Collin to make it 1-0 to Brentford.

Pritchard forced Button to palm away a strong shot shortly after the break and sent a subsequent effort wide of the far post as a rejuvenated Brentford came out of the traps in the early moments of the second half.

Derbyshire should have levelled for the hosts when presented with a one-on-one chance following a defensive calamity, but his shot was too weak and Button dived low to parry the effort away to safety.

Taylor looked lively throughout for the home side and was unfortunate to see Button make a good reaction save from his thunderous near-post strike in the 77th minute.

The only blemish for the visitors was a serious injury to Scott Hogan, who was carried from the pitch on a stretcher less than 15 minutes after appearing as a second-half substitute.

In the fifth of eight minutes of stoppage time, Jon Toral unselfishly squared for fellow substitute Proschwitz to ensure the visitors wrapped up their second victory of the season.
