Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek acknowledges that he will have to be patient before holding down a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting lineup.

Donny van de Beek has admitted that he "would have liked to play more" for Manchester United after a frustrating start to his Premier League career.

The 23-year-old has clocked up just 77 minutes of top-flight action - all as a substitute - since joining from Ajax in a £40m deal during the summer window.

Van de Beek has started two games in both the Champions League and EFL Cup, but he concedes that he will have to bide his time and take his opportunities when they arrive.

"It sounds cliche for me to say this, because of course I would have liked to play more, but I really enjoy being in a nice team," he told NOS.

"I am simply received very well and helped by everyone. I'm a patient person, but of course you go there to play as much as possible.

"I also think, in the minutes that I have made, in the times that I have come in, I have shown that I can add something to the team."

Van de Beek scored his second goal in as many internationals on Wednesday to earn the Netherlands a 1-1 draw in their friendly with Spain.
