A report claims that Rio Ferdinand is delaying a decision on whether to become technical director of Manchester United as it would mean relocating his family.

Rio Ferdinand reportedly has reservations over becoming Manchester United's technical director as he would have to relocate his family.

The 40-year-old is believed to have emerged as executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward's preferred candidate to take up the newly-created position.

Ferdinand knows the club well, having spent 12 years at Old Trafford during his playing days, and he also boasts business acumen from ventures outside of the football industry.

However, the Manchester Evening News reports that the ex-England international is holding off from making a decision as he is settled in the south of England with his family.

United, who can no longer qualify for next season's Champions League, intend to appoint a technical director in time for the summer transfer window.
