Kevin Volland strike hands Hoffenheim draw at Freiburg

Kevin Volland's unstoppable 25-yard strike earns Hoffenheim a point in a 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Freiburg.

Freiburg missed the chance to climb out of the Bundesliga's bottom three as Hoffenheim earned a 1-1 draw to keep the pressure on their rivals for a place in Europe.

Chances were difficult to come by in the early stages, but it was Freiburg who were rewarded for a good spell midway through the first half when Immanuel Hohn found space at the back post to fire home from Sascha Riether's free kick.

However, Hoffenheim equalised in spectacular fashion before the break as Anthony Modeste picked out Kevin Volland, who shifted the ball onto his left foot before picking out the top corner from 25 yards.

It was the visitors who dominated after the break, and they came agonisingly close to taking the lead when Modeste curled just wide of the post.

A counter-attack from Hoffenheim looked certain to end with a goal, but the away side wasted another chance as Modeste dragged wide of the post with 20 minutes remaining.

Despite being dealt a blow in stoppage time when Marc Torrejon was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Tarik Elyounoussi, Freiburg managed to hold on to pick up a point in their battle to avoid relegation.
