Preview: Feyenoord vs. Vitesse - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Eredivisie clash between Feyenoord and Vitesse, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Feyenoord set out to finish the 2022-23 Eredivisie campaign unbeaten at home when they welcome Vitesse to De Kuip in Sunday's season finale.

As for Vites, they will be looking to build on last weekend's demolition of Groningen and pick up just their second away victory since the start of February.

Having already confirmed their 16th Eredivisie title, Feyenoord did not take their foot off the gas last weekend when they came from behind to beat Emmen 3-1 at De Oude Meerdijk.

Oussama Idrissi struck on the half-hour mark to cancel out Richairo Zivkovic's early strike before substitute Danilo scored a second-half brace to hand the visitors a comfortable victory.

This was a 13th top-flight win on the spin for Arne Slot's men, a run which has undoubtedly been vital in their title triumph by ensuring that a resurgent PSV Eindhoven side stay out of reach.

Slot's success at De Kuip has attracted heavy interest from Premier League side Tottenham, who have been on the lookout for a permanent manager since the departure of Antonio Conte in March.

However, the 44-year-old recently pledged his future to Feyenoord by signing a new deal, a move indicating the club is not just hungry for short-term success but also keen on domestic dominance.

Vitesse, on the other hand, will begin to look towards rebuilding ahead of next season following what has been a largely underwhelming domestic campaign.

Phillip Cocu's men only guaranteed their top-flight status for next season last weekend, when they steamrolled already-relegated Groningen 6-0 at the Gelredome.

Dutch midfielder Million Manhoef almost single-handedly put the visitors to the sword as he scored three goals and set up one to hand the visitors their biggest win this season.

Vitesse will now finish in the bottom half of the Eredivisie standings for the first time since the 2010-2011 campaign, having picked up just 37 points so far to occupy 12th place.

While Vites will be looking to wrap up the campaign on a high, they head into the weekend on a run of four defeats in their last five away matches, with a 4-1 win at Nijmegen on April 16 being the exception.

Team News

Feyenoord will be without midfielder Mats Wieffer, who will miss the season finale due to suspension after crossing the yellow card threshold with his booking against Emmen.

On the injury front, De Stadionclub will finish the season without the defensive duo of Gernot Trauner and Mimeirhel Benita, who have been sidelined through knee problems.

Marcus Pedersen missed the game against Emmen due to a foot injury, while 21-year-old midfielder Patrik Walemark has been out of action since February through a muscle injury.

Barring any late fitness issues, Davy Propper should be the only absentee for Vitesse, giving Cocu the luxury of a relatively full-strength squad at his disposal.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder has missed the last 13 matches after coming off with a knee injury in February's game against Emmen.

Following his hat-trick against Groningen, Manhoef is now one shy of 10 league goals and the 21-year-old should team up with Matua Bero and Bartosz Bialek in the final third once again.

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Wellenreuther; Geertruida, Kasanwirjo, Hancko, Hartman; Kokcu, Timber; Paixao, Szymanski, Idrissi; Gimenez

Vitesse possible starting lineup:
Scherpen; Arcus, Flamingo, Isimat-Mirin, Wittek; Van Ginkel, Meulensteen, Bero; Manhoef, Sankoh, Kozlowski

We say: Feyenoord 2-0 Vitesse

While this weekend's clash is nothing more than a dead rubber for both sides, Feyenoord's home record makes them firm favourites and we fancy them to pick up a routine victory.
