Saturday's League One predictions including Stevenage vs. Barnsley

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League One fixtures, including Stevenage vs. Barnsley.

Bristol Rovers vs. Blackpool (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Bristol Rovers' Alfie Kilgour celebrates scoring their first goal with teammates on January 9, 2021© Reuters

Just under a month after their first encounter of the season, Bristol Rovers and Blackpool will lock horns once again in League One, this time at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts are in 11th place in the league standings with 34 points after 25 matches, while the visitors are three places above them with 42 points, though they have played two more games than their opponents.

We say: Bristol Rovers 2-1 Blackpool

While Blackpool are carrying slightly better league form into this match, it is hard to ignore Britol's home record this season. The Pirates have only been beaten once at Memorial Stadium in 11 matches and are unbeaten in their last nine, including five wins. We fancy them to claim another home victory in this one.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Burton Albion vs. Charlton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Burton Albion's Jonny Smith celebrates with teammates after scoring their first goal on November 27, 2022© Reuters

Burton Albion will be aiming to leapfrog Charlton Athletic in League One's table when they meet at Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

Both sides will be aiming to bounce back from defeat after narrowly being beaten last time out.

We say: Burton Albion 1-1 Charlton Athletic

There is little doubt that Charlton possess more individual talent, particularly in offensive areas, but their confidence levels are likely to be low having lost four of their last five league games. Burton are not in great form themselves, but they have remained consistent at home and are fighting to impress their new manager.

As such, we expect the hosts to avoid defeat as a worst case scenario, but Charlton should have enough firepower to get something out of the game. A score draw feels the likeliest outcome.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.

Cheltenham vs. Carlisle (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Carlisle United's Ben Barclay celebrates scoring their third goal with teammates on May 20, 2023© Reuters

Cheltenham Town could move outside of League One's relegation places by beating Carlisle United on Saturday.

The visitors have lost four of their last five league games to fall to second bottom in the table.

We say: Cheltenham Town 1-0 Carlisle United

Although both of these sides will head into this match inside the relegation zone, they have been on massively contrasting trajectories in recent months. Cheltenham appear to have completely overcome their disastrous start to the season, and will be confident of staying up under Clarke's tutelage.

Carlisle, on the other hand, are in poor form and are up against it to avoid defeat on Saturday. We expect the hosts to continue their positive momentum and claim a narrow victory, which could move them outside of the bottom four positions.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.

Exeter vs. Cambridge (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Cambridge United's Jack Lankester celebrates scoring their first goal with teammates on January 6, 2024© Reuters

Exeter City will be aiming to bounce back from defeat when they host Cambridge United in League One on Saturday.

The visitors, meanwhile, have failed to win any of their last 10 away trips in the league.

We say: Exeter City 1-2 Cambridge United

Cambridge have been dismal on the road so far this season, but they were minutes away from claiming a draw against Oxford having drawn away to Charlton Athletic in Harris' first away match in charge. Exeter have improved at home lately, but remain in a difficult position in the table.

As such, we can envisage Cambridge finally ending their winless streak on their travels on Saturday, and putting a sizeable gap between themselves and the relegation zone in the process.

Our tipster partners are predicting a home win.

Fleetwood vs. Portsmouth (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Fleetwood Town will attempt to end their 12-game winless league run when they welcome Portsmouth to Highbury Stadium on Saturday.

Pompey, who currently lead the League One table, will be looking to return to winning ways after suffering consecutive defeats.

We say: Fleetwood Town 1-2 Portsmouth

Although Pompey may be experiencing a poor run of form, we still believe they will do enough to beat the league's basement side, especially as they have won their last three away games against Fleetwood.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Leyton Orient vs. Bolton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Aiming to return to the top two in the League One table after the abandonment of their last outing on Saturday, Bolton Wanderers will travel to Brisbane Road to take on Leyton Orient on Saturday.

The visitors trail second place by a single point with two games in hand, while their hosts have climbed to 10th spot in England's third tier thanks to an upturn in form.

We say: Leyton Orient 1-1 Bolton Wanderers

While Bolton Wanderers are certainly in fine form in League One with their sights set on top spot, they face a difficult test on their travels at the weekend, and full of renewed confidence, we fancy Leyton Orient to take the share of the spoils on home turf.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.

Lincoln vs. Derby (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Derby County manager Paul Warne reacts on July 29, 2023© Reuters

Lincoln City will look to claim their first win since November when they welcome Derby County to the LNER Stadium for Saturday's League One contest.

The visitors, who are currently sitting in third place, will have the chance to record a third consecutive league victory.

We say: Lincoln City 1-2 Derby County

Derby have won each of their last five away trips, and we think they will continue that run of form against a Lincoln side that has lost four of their previous five matches.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.

Oxford Utd vs. Northampton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Oxford United will be aiming to maintain their position in League One's playoff spots with a positive result against Northampton Town on Saturday.

The visitors may have half an eye on finishing inside the top six themselves, having adapted to life back in the third tier remarkably quickly.

We say: Oxford United 2-1 Northampton Town

Oxford have rediscovered their form from earlier in the season under Buckingham, and they always carry a significant threat in attack. Northampton are a more solid outfit and will provide stubborn resistance.

However, we expect Oxford's quality to shine through in the end, even if they may have to be patient to find a winner. Doing so would be a big step towards finishing inside the top six, while making a serious dent in their opponents' aspirations of achieving similar.

Our tipster partners are predicting a home win.

Peterborough vs. Shrewsbury (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Peterborough United's Joe Ward celebrates scoring their second goal with teammates on May 12, 2023© Reuters

Peterborough United will be hoping to take the lead in League One when they take on Shrewsbury Town at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts are currently in second place in the league standings with 52 points after 26 matches, while the visitors are in 17th spot with 30 points and have played a game more than their opponents.

We say: Peterborough United 3-0 Shrewsbury Town

With Portsmouth expected to beat a struggling Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium at the same time as this match, Peterborough will know they have to win this game to maintain the pressure on the league leaders. Based on The Posh's recent form and home record, we feel they will have little issue in claiming all three points in this one.

Our tipster partners are predicting a home win.

Port Vale vs. Wycombe (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Port Vale manager Andrew Crosby reacts on December 19, 2023© Reuters

Two teams sitting level on 30 points in the League One table will face off when Port Vale play host to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

The home side are searching for their first win of 2024, while the Chairboys are looking to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

We say: Port Vale 2-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Although Port Vale have lost their last two home games against Wycombe, they did take a point off the Chairboys in December's reverse fixture at Adams Park.

With the teams currently level on 30 points, we think two closely matched sides will play out a draw in Saturday's contest.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 1.5 goals.

Stevenage vs. Barnsley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Stevenage manager Steve Evans on January 29, 2023© Reuters

Stevenage will welcome Barnsley to Broadhall Way on Saturday for a key contest in the fight at the top end of the League One table.

The visitors currently sit fifth after 26 games with just a three-point lead over their visitors, who find themselves just outside the playoff places.

We say: Stevenage 1-1 Barnsley

The two sides have enjoyed similar first halves to the League One season, and while Barnsley boast more quality, the hosts have continuously punched above their weight this term and should at least be able to take a share of the spoils on home turf.

Our tipster partners are predicting an away win.

Wigan vs. Reading (Saturday, 3.00pm)

On the back of the abandonment of their meeting with Port Vale due to fan protests last weekend, Reading will travel to Lancashire to take on Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The two sides are separated by five points at the bottom end of the League One table with the visitors sat in the relegation zone and their hosts now 18th with 20 games left to play.

We say: Wigan Athletic 1-1 Reading

Given their points deductions and recent improvements, these two sides are arguably both better than the current league standings suggest, and we anticipate a tight contest on Saturday and see a share of the spoils as the most likely outcome.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.
