Barnsley, Yeovil Town share spoils

Barnsley and Yeovil Town remain in the relegation zone in the Championship following a 1-1 draw at Oakwell this afternoon.

Barnsley have held Yeovil Town to 1-1 draw at Oakwell in the Championship this afternoon.

The sides, who were separated by two points in the relegation zone prior to kickoff, were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, with Marcus Tudgay's first-half penalty cancelling out Joel Grant's opening goal.

The visitors took the lead within 10 minutes, as Grant's effort wrong-footed Tykes goalkeeper Jack Butland and found its way into the back of the net.

Refusing to rest on their laurels, the Glovers went in search of a second and came within inches of finding it, with Joe Edwards striking the post following patient build-up play from Town.

Gary Johnson's men dominated but soon found themselves pegged back against the run of play, as Tomasz Cykwa was fouled by Byron Webster inside the area, before Tudgay kept his nerve from 12 yards and levelled matters.

The hosts came close to inflicting a sucker-punch in the closing stages of the first half, but Jacob Mellis's goal-bound effort was headed off the line by defender Shane Duffy to ensure parity at the interval.

Jason Scotland, who earlier replaced Marcus Pedersen, came within the width of the crossbar from firing Micky Mellon's men into the lead, only for the Wigan Athletic striker to see his effort cannon off the upright.

Johnson had Chris Dunn to thank for securing a point, as the keeper produced an excellent save in the closing stages to deny Jean-Yves Mvoto from firing his team into the lead.

Despite the best efforts of both teams, the respective managers were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
