Serena Williams moves a step closer to her sixth Wimbledon title with a comfortable win over France's Caroline Garcia.

Serena Williams has defeated Caroline Garcia in straight sets to progress to the third round at Wimbledon.

The five-time Wimbledon champion was tested by her French opponent at the start of each set, but the American advanced with a 6-3 6-2 win.

Garcia held her own at the beginning of the match, sharing the opening four games, before Williams began to display her power in wrapping up the opener in 31 minutes.

The second set began in similar fashion, but Garcia was unable to create any opportunities on the Williams serve.

The 31-year-old was proving too much for the world number 100 and eased through the final three games to set up a match with 42-year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm.
