World number three Roger Federer eases into round three of Wimbledon at the expense of Fabio Fognini.

Six-time winner Roger Federer has advanced through to round three of Wimbledon thanks to a 6-1 6-3 6-2 win over Fabio Fognini this afternoon.

Federer, the current world number three, made light work of his Italian opponent by wrapping up the victory in one hour and 15 minutes.

The Swiss player appeared to rediscover his trademark forehand that had recently deserted him during the French Open.

A series of those strokes allowed him to break Fognini's serve on two occasions to help him run out a 6-1 victor.

Fognini put up more resistance in the next two sets, but he was only able to pick up five more games as Federer booked his place in the next round.
