Six-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer has booked his spot in the final of Wimbledon after overcoming world number one Novak Djokovic 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3.

The match remained on serve in the early stages, with both players making the most of their points on serve.

However, Federer broke Djokovic at the third time of asking in the opening set to move 4-2 ahead, while he held serve to move within a game of the opener.

The Swiss did indeed serve it out to take the first set 6-3 after just 24 minutes of tennis between the two.

Djokovic started the second set the stronger, and he broke at 1-0 to take a 2-0 lead early in the second.

The match remained on serve from that point as Djokovic served it out to level it at one-set-all after an explosive opening.

The third set remained equally as tight, but the decisive moment came when Djokovic missed an easy overhead to hand Federer two set points at 4-5.

Djokovic saved the first, but Federer took the second to secure the break – and with it, the third set.

Federer started the fourth in fine form, and he claimed a break of serve on his way to opening up a 3-0 lead.

The Swiss continued his domination, claiming six of seven games to move 4-1 ahead. However, Djokovic saved three break points at 1-4 to move 4-2 behind his Swiss opponent.

Another strong service game from Federer moved him to within one game of the match at 2-5 - but Djokovic held strong to move two games behind.

It was left to Federer to serve it out, and he did just that to book a meeting with either Andy Murray or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final.

The Swiss player will also become the new world number one if he can secure the trophy this year.
