Alexandr Dolgopolov through in straight sets

Dolgopolov through in straight sets

Alexandr Dolgopolov has won three close sets against Samuel Groth to progress to the second round at Wimbledon this evening.

The Ukrainian was closely matched by his Australian opponent in the opening set, but was able to get a break in the penultimate game of the set before holding serve to clinch it.

Both players served solidly in the second, with neither giving their opponent the chance to break, forcing the set to a tie-break which the world number 19 won comfortably.

The third set went the same way, but Groth was stronger in the tie-break before Dolgopolov just edged ahead to see out the match 7-5 7-6(2) 7-6(5).

Dolgopolov will face Germany's Benjamin Becker in the second round later this week.
