Defending champion Garbine Muguruza knocked out in second round

Alison van Uytvanck recovers from a set behind to beat defending Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza 5-7 6-2 6-1 in the second round.

Reigning women's champion Garbine Muguruza has made an early exit from Wimbledon, having suffered a 5-7 6-2 6-1 defeat to the unseeded Alison Van Uytvanck.

In the latest surprise result at SW19, the world number three failed to build on a one-set lead and was dumped out inside two hours.

Van Uytvanck lost serve on three occasions in the opener, but the Belgian responded brilliantly on Court Two by taking advantage of a series of unforced errors.

After taking the second set to level things up, Van Uytvanck comfortably got over the line by holding serve and punishing her sloppy opponent to book a place in round three.

The world number 47 will now face Anett Kontaveit, who beat Jennifer Brady in straight sets.
