Johanna Konta to face Maria Sharapova in Wimbledon opener

Johanna Konta is handed a tough opening-round match at Wimbledon, with 2004 champion Maria Sharapova providing her competition.

British hopeful Johanna Konta has been drawn against Maria Sharapova in the first round of Wimbledon.

Fellow Brits Heather Watson and Naomi Broady will face Caroline Garcia and Mariana Duque-Marino respectively, while Laura Robson meets Evgeniya Rodina.

Number one seed Serena Williams could face sister Venus Williams en route to the final, meanwhile, with the pair on course to meet in the last eight at SW19.

Before that, Serena Williams must first overcome world number 113 Margarita Gasparyan, as she looks to win a sixth Wimbledon crown.
