Defending women’s champion Angelique Kerber was a shock loser, but Roger Federer and Serena Williams were able to progress.

It took just 24 minutes for Kyrgios to bring his underarm serve out as he kept the chuckling Nadal on his toes in an entertaining clash.

American Lauren Davis celebrated July 4 in style by knocking out the defending champion Kerber in three sets. Davis, who only made it into the draw as a lucky loser, won 2-6 6-2 6-1 and was joined in the third round by compatriots Williams, Sloane Stephens, Sam Querrey, Tennys Sandgren, Steve Johnson and Alison Riske.

Dan Evans matched his best ever Wimbledon performance by beating 18th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets, while Harriet Dart’s amazing run continued when she saw off Beatriz Haddad Maiz in three. Johanna Konta was also a winner, breezing past Katerina Siniakova.
