Andy Murray: 'I can win US Open'

Andy Murray believes that he is capable of winning this year's US Open.

British number one Andy Murray believes that he is capable of winning the US Open in New York.

The 24-year-old begins his campaign against Indian Somdev Devvarman this evening and Murray has revealed that he could be in for a tough match.

"He [Devvarman] doesn't have too many flaws", said Murray. "He doesn't have one huge weapon either, but he has a really good attitude and works hard so it will be a tough one."

Murray has never won a Grand Slam tournament but has claimed that his recent victory in Cincinnati has left him the best possible form to break his duck.

"I think I can win it but I'm going to have to play a great tournament," added Murray.

"Obviously Novak will be the favourite coming into the tournament, his year has been incredible so far, and Roger and Rafa always play their best tennis at the Slams.

"I know it's going to be an incredibly difficult tournament to win but I feel like I've prepared well, Cincinnati was a really good week for me and I feel ready to go."

Murray has been seeded number four at Flushing Meadows.
