Azarenka elated with battling performance

Victoria Azarenka has revealed that she was elated with her display in her win over Angelique Kerber in the third round of the US Open.

The two-time finalist was 5-2 in the first set, but rallied to take it 7-5. However, the number 11 seed came back strongly to secure a 6-2 victory in the second set.

Azarenka managed to produce her best tennis at the vital moments and secured a break, and almost won the match with a second, although Kerber fended off five match points before the number 20 seed served out for the match.

She told ESPN: "This is one of the most enjoyable moments you can possibly have. To fight in such a great match against such a competitor as Angelique and come out with a win is a bonus.

"I enjoyed the hustle and chasing down every ball and hitting winners, it was amazing. "To play so close in a fight and not lose faith in myself, to keep battling through. I live for these moments and to be able to go through into the next round is the best I can ask for."

Azarenka will face Varvara Lepchenko in the next round of the competition.
