Federer claims Indian Wells title

Roger Federer has claimed a record-equalling 19th ATP 1000 Masters title with a straight-sets win over John Isner at Indian Wells.

Isner could have made the breakthrough on Federer's second service game when he had two break points, but the Swiss edged his way back to deuce before winning the game.

Both players gave little away for the remainder of the first set as Isner's versatile groundstrokes were cancelled out by Federer's relentless athleticism.

As the pair moved into a tie-break, Federer was able to snatch a decisive third mini-break to take the set 9-7.

Federer and Isner were again level for much of the second, but the former world number one captalised on his opponent's waning energy to find the first break of the match at 4-3 before he held on to take the set 6-3.

The win is the 30-year-old's sixth victory in his last eight tournaments.
