Juan Martin del Potro defeats Denis Istomin

Juan Martin del Potro has defeated Denis Istomin in three sets in the round of 16 at Indian Wells.

Istomin and the Argentinian went neck and neck in the opening set, with neither man able to break ahead of the other. However, Del Potro was able to emerge victorious in the ensuing tie break to go ahead in the match.

In the second set, the Uzbekistani pushed the world number nine to another tie break. However, with Del Potro looking to see him off in straight sets, Istomin made it out on top.

With the match on the line in the third and decisive set, Del Potro regrouped and broke his opponent twice to escape with a win and move into the next round.
