Juan Martin Del Potro beats Bjorn Phau in straight sets

Juan Martin del Potro has beaten Bjorn Phau 6-2 7-5 in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

The World No. 7 beat the German in straight sets to advance to the quarter-final stage of the California-based competition.

Del Potro joins a quarter-final lineup that contains Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Tommy Haas and Marin Cilic among others.

The match was the first time Del Potro has ever faced Phau in competitive action.
