Maria Sharapova determined to end losing streak against Serena Williams

Maria Sharapova admits that she is desperate to win for the first time in 19 attempts against Serena Williams in the final of the Australian Open.

Maria Sharapova is determined to end her 11-year losing streak against Serena Williams in the final of the Australian Open.

The 27-year-old has failed to beat the world number one since 2004 as Williams boasts a 16-2 record against the Russian, which includes victories in two Grand Slam finals.

"It's been a really difficult matchup for me, but I am a competitor," Sharapova told reporters. "I will go out and I will do everything I can to try to change that result around."

Sharapova last won the Australian Open in 2008.
