Andy Murray marches to a 7-6 [8-6] 6-4 victory over Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik to advance to the second round of the Rotterdam Open.

Great Britain's Andy Murray returned to action at the Rotterdam Open with a straight sets victory over Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik.

The three-time Grand Slam winner took to the court for the first time since being dumped out of the Australian Open by Taro Daniel and was made to work against world number 31 Bublik.

However, Murray ultimately marched to a 7-6 [8-6] 6-4 win over Bublik to advance to the second round, where he will meet Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Murray said: "There were some tough moments in the first set for both of us but I managed to come through at the end of it. Some great returns and big second serves from him but I did a good job.

"To me the courts felt pretty quick, but I guess it depends a little bit on who you're playing against. When you're playing against someone serving like that maybe it feels a bit faster! It's a nice court to play on, you can play all-court tennis out here.

"Looking forward to the next one [against Auger-Aliassime], one of the best young players. I'll need to be on my game if I want to beat him but it's a great test for me."

Murray boasted a 71% win percentage on his second serve but could only take two of his nine break points against Bublik, and he could meet compatriot Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals should his fellow Brit overcome Karen Khachanov later on tonight.
