Struggling Castleford Tigers have picked up a timely win in the Super League with a 34-16 victory over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Belle Vue.

The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute when Richard Owen touched down for the first try of the match. Kirk Dixon kicked over the first of his five goals to put the Tigers 6-0 ahead.

Wakefield hit back on 25 minutes as Peter Fox touched down, but Paul Sykes missed his kick to keep Castleford in front.

Owen bagged his second try of the game in the 31st minute before substitute Grant Millington scored to stretch the away side's lead.

However, the Wildcats had the final say of the half when Sykes converted his own try two minutes before the break to make the score 18-10 to the Tigers.

Steve Snitch went over for his team's fourth try minutes after half time, while scores from Brett Ferres and Oliver Holmes saw Castleford move well clear of their opponents.

Sykes converted Kyle Woods's try with three minutes to play, but it was only a consolation for the hosts.
