Wakefield Trinity Wildcats prop Nick Scruton has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing thumb surgery.

The 29-year-old had been playing with the problem for a number of months, but the decision to fix the issue has been made ahead of the next campaign.

Scruton is now likely to be available for the Wildcats when they start their pre-season schedule.

Wakefield return to Super League action on Friday with a trip to St Helens.
