St Helens ease past Salford Red Devils

St Helens ease to a 32-12 victory over the Salford Red Devils in their clash at Langtree Park with the help of two tries from Tommy Makinson.

St Helens continued their strong campaign in the Super League courtesy of a 32-12 victory over the Salford Red Devils.

The home side took the lead in the 11th minute when Tommy Makinson collected a pass from James Roby and crossed the line with ease before dispatching his kick through the posts.

St Helens extended their advantage as Shannon McDonnell latched onto a chip over the Red Devils line and ran 70 metres with the ball before unloading to Adam Swift for the try.

Saints continued to dominate and their execution in the final third proved too much for the Salford defence to handle as Jon Wilkin found Jordan Turner, who managed to crash over the line.

Just before the break, Mark Percival fended off three players to unload to McDonnell who showed quick hands to find Makinson to go over the line for his second try of the game.

In the second half, the Red Devils got on the scoreboard when Niall Evalds chased a ball over the top of the Saints' line and ran over for the try.

Salford continued their resurgence in the second half as Rangi Chase found space through the Saints' defence before touching down over the line to bring his side within 12 points.

Makinson quelled their momentum as he kicked over from range following a penalty, while McDonnell put the match beyond doubt as he collected a pass from Andre Savelio and touched down with ease.
