Sunderland winger Adam Johnson to answer bail in two weeks

Sunderland's Adam Johnson has been bailed for two weeks after police arrested him on suspicion of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16.

The England international, 27, was questioned by police yesterday following the allegation involving a girl who is believed to be 15 years old.

He has since been suspended by Sunderland, pending the outcome of the police investigation, and has now been told that he must answer bail on March 18.

Johnson's girlfriend, who gave birth to the couple's daughter seven weeks ago, is reportedly standing by her partner in the wake of the allegations.
