Sebastian Vettel says that he did the best he could at the Italian Grand Prix.

Reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel has said that he is disappointed to have missed out on scoring any points in the Italian Grand Prix.

The German was forced to retire in Monza and subsequently dropped two positions to fourth in the table, behind Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen.

The Red Bull driver is fully aware that he missed an opportunity to catch Fernando Alonso at the top of the championship standings.

"We lost some points today," said Vettel.

"It doesn't help if the others are finishing and we don't. We did the best we could."

The next race is the Singapore Grand Prix on September 23.
