Michael Schumacher appointed Mercedes ambassador

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher has been named as Mercedes's ambassador for future technology and road safety.

Schumacher said that he intends to use his experience of technology during his Formula 1 career to help push the brand forward.

"The future interests me much more than the present and past," he said in a statement.

"During my Formula 1 [career] I always believed that you must not allow yourself to rest on your laurels, but that you must continuously try to improve.

"In so doing I was very often able to rely on the help of all the technologies available to me in the car and use them to my advantage."

Schumacher retired for the second time at the end of last season.
