Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton reveals plans to change his name to incorporate his mother's surname.

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he plans to incorporate his mother's surname into his name.

The seven-time world champion is currently preparing for the start of the 2022 season, which gets underway in Bahrain at the end of the week.

While the British driver was naturally quizzed on matters relating to his Mercedes at the 2022 Dubai Expo, Hamilton chose the moment to comment on plans to change his name.

The 37-year-old will include 'Larbalestier' as his middle name, although it will not come into effect until after this week's Grand Prix at the very earliest.

Speaking ahead of the new campaign, Hamilton said: "I am really proud of my family's name. My mum's name is Larbalestier and I'm just about to put that in my name.

"I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name."

Hamilton is bidding to win a record eighth title this season having been controversially denied in Abu Dhabi in December.
