Lewis Hamilton tops standings in third practice ahead of British Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton records the fastest time in the third practice session ahead of the British Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has ended his preparations for the qualifying session for the British Grand Prix by topping the standings in third practice.

The British driver finished marginally ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg as he looks to put himself in a position to start on pole for Sunday's race.

The Red Bull duo of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen concluded the session in third and fourth respectively, while Sebastian Vettel was fifth in the Ferrari.

McLaren's Fernando Alonso finished in seventh, with teammate Jenson Button in 12th position and fellow British driver Jolyon Palmer in 18th spot in the Renault.
