Ron Dennis: 'Jenson Button staying at McLaren'

Ron Dennis reveals that McLaren are intending to keep Jenson Button with the team in 2016.

McLaren supremo Ron Dennis has stated that Jenson Button will be staying with the team for 2016, despite reports that the former world champion was about to leave Formula 1.

The 35-year-old has been linked with a move to Porsche, to compete in the World Endurance Championship next season, while Chris Evans also dropped a hint that Button would be one of the presenters on the new-look Top Gear.

However, Dennis has claimed that McLaren will not be terminating Button's contract this winter.

He told reporters: "Jenson has a two-year contract. I should have taken away any doubt about our commitment to him earlier than I did.

"It would have been more constructive if he had known I had no intention to exercise our option to terminate. We did not put it in there to exercise it and we didn't. I informed Jenson accordingly."

McLaren are ninth in the Constructors' Championship.
