Wrexham transfer news: Colombia international 'keen' on making switch to Championship newcomers

Colombia international 'keen' on making switch to Championship newcomers Wrexham

Wrexham have reportedly been provided encouragement with regards to their interest in Talleres midfielder Juan Portilla.

The Hollywood-backed Welsh club are bidding to establish themselves in the Championship and put together a campaign that could culminate in Premier League promotion.

Six notable additions have been made thus far and there has been talk of Wrexham breaking their transfer record once again this summer in order to sign Ipswich Town forward Nathan Broadhead.

Bringing in Denmark legend Christian Eriksen feels unlikely, even if an approach was made, but it appears that Wrexham have their sights set on other international players.

Wrexham want Colombia international

As per Sky Sports News, Wrexham hold an interest in signing Portilla from Talleres this summer.

Furthermore, the Colombia international is said to be keen on completing a transfer to the Racecourse Ground over the coming weeks.

Portilla, who has earned three caps for his country, has made a total of 68 appearances for Talleres, contributing one goal and five assists.

He is most recognised as a defensive-minded central midfielder, but has been versatile during his career, which has been spent in his homeland and Argentina.

The report suggests that no formal contact has been made between the clubs at this stage, although the expectation is that will change in due course.

There are just under 18 months remaining on Portilla's contract.

Another statement from Wrexham?

With George Thomason and Lewis O'Brien having been signed from Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest for significant fees, it is somewhat of a surprise that Phil Parkinson is remaining focused on strengthening the engine room.

That said, signing a player who completed the 90 minutes in World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Ecuador as recently as November would represent a huge coup.

Much will depend on a fee. Although Wrexham are seemingly prepared to spend big on Broadhead and add to what must be more than £5m spent this summer, they will have to limit themselves at some stage.
