Wolves transfer news: Fabio Silva facing dilemma as Serie A interest intensifies?

Wolves, Silva facing dilemma as Serie A interest intensifies?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly facing a dilemma over how to handle the future of Fabio Silva.

The £35m signing from 2020 has entered the final 12 months of his contract and all parties are seemingly of the opinion that a parting of the ways is the best option.

Despite training with the first-team squad in recent weeks, Silva is yet to feature in pre-season and watched from the stands on Wednesday night as Wolves lost 3-1 to Lens.

As such, the Premier League outfit would presumably want to facilitate a sale as soon as possible, yet it has been suggested that their valuation of the 23-year-old is at least £20m.

Although Silva's stock is currently high on the back of his loan stint with Las Palmas, it is unrealistic to expect any club to spend that much money on the player in the present circumstances.

Roma interest in Silva leaves conundrum

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma remain interested in signing Silva providing that terms can be agreed with Wolves.

Roma allegedly want to acquire the services of Silva on a season-long loan with the obligation to buy, something which they view as beneficial having already shelled out on several signings this summer.

However, for that to be achievable, Silva must agree to a 12-month contract extension at Wolves when he has no future at Molineux.

With new Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini seemingly a fan of Silva and views him as someone who can play in several roles, the former Porto starlet could be tempted into such a scenario.

On the flip side, Silva knows that he could become a free agent next July and speak to foreign clubs from January.

That would leave Wolves in a situation where they would be left scrambling to generate some sort of loan fee for 2025-26, rather than receiving a sizeable fee.

Wolves forced into corner

Therefore, Wolves' best option is to lower their financial demands for Silva and not risk a scenario playing out where they lose out considerably on a former club-record signing.

Unless they are prepared to do so, Wolves officials will hope that Silva jumps at the chance of signing for Roma and income can be generated next summer.

Wolves have already recouped in the region of £100m through player sales and loan fees, plus significantly reduced their wage bill, so adding the sale of Silva to the books for 2025-26 is not a necessity.
