Sam Ricketts released by Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers announce that defender Sam Ricketts will leave the club this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Kenny Jackett has praised defender Sam Ricketts after it was revealed that he would depart the club this summer.

Ricketts leaves Molineux having made just four league appearances during the last campaign, and Jackett, who made the 33-year-old his first signing in 2013, has revealed that he has been delighted with the part that the Welsh international has played at the club.

The 53-year-old told the club's official website: "Sam found his first-team opportunities limited last season, but maintained a highly professional attitude both on and off the pitch.

"Prior to moving on loan to Swindon, he was also assisting us on the coaching side particularly working closely with the defence.

"In his first season here as captain, he was a major influence and helped the team enjoy some great success with the League One title. We would all like to thank him for his contribution during his two years at Molineux, and wish him all the best in his future career."

Ricketts scored three goals in 51 appearances at Wolves.
