Wolfsburg edge out Eintracht Frankfurt in Bundesliga clash

Goals from Ivan Perisic and Bas Dost are enough to fire Wolfsburg to a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga match.

Wolfsburg have secured a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga clash this afternoon.

Dieter Hecking's men took the lead in the 13th minute when Max Kruse lifted a cross to the back post for the run of Ivan Perisic who headed the ball into the net.

The home side doubled their advantage minutes later as Bas Dost netted his first goal for the club by diverting the ball past Lukas Hradecky from close range.

Frankfurt got back into the game in the 19th minute when Stefan Reinartz pulled free of his marker inside the box to power a header into the top corner.

In the second half, Wolfsburg pushed for a third goal to kill the game off, but they struggled to carve out a clear-cut opportunity in the final third as Kevin De Bruyne failed to find his best form in the contest.

The visitors pushed to get back into the game as Joel Gerezgiher found space in the box, but his strike was well saved by Koen Casteels.

Luca Waldschmidt should have equalised for Frankfurt when he latched on to a cross into the box, but his header was denied by Casteels as the home side held out for the three points.
