Wolfsburg player dies in car accident

Wolfsburg's Junior Malanda has died after being involved in a high-speed car crash, near Porta Westfalica in the north of Germany.

Police reports are claiming that the car Malanda was a passenger in was travelling at 'excessive speeds' in heavy rain and wind speeds of up to 100kmph.

The Belgian Under-21 international was thought to be on his way to a South African training camp to meet with teammates, according to bild.de.

Another passenger and the driver were reported to have been seriously injured in the accident and have been hospitalised.

Malanda was touted as promising young player, playing through the age groups for his national side, while recently breaking into the first team for Wolfsburg, for whom he made 10 appearances this season.
