Preview: Woking vs. Boston United - prediction, team news, lineups

Woking vs. Boston - prediction, team news, lineups

Woking play host to Boston United on Saturday afternoon in what is a battle at the bottom of the National League table.

These two teams sit in 19th and 23th position respectively, the visitors trailing the home side by just the six points.

Match preview

Woking's recent results do not necessarily tell the whole story, particularly having pushed League One outfit Cambridge United in the FA Cup.

You have to go all the way back to September 14 for their last defeat by more than a one-goal margin, that coming at home to promotion contenders Oldham Athletic by a 3-1 scoreline.

Nevertheless, Michael Doyle will recognise the importance of ending a nine-game winless streak in the National League, just four draws being posted during that time.

The most recent of those came at home to second-placed Forest Green Rovers on October 26, before they went down 1-0 at Halifax Town in their most recent league fixture two weeks later.

Although Woking have scored just nine times in their eight matches at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, the Cardinals have lost just three times.

Meanwhile, Boston United have started to show signs of life just when it appeared that their misery down at the bottom of the National League could be prolonged.

On the back of 11 matches without success in all competitions, respectable draws have been posted against Eastleigh and Dagenham & Redbridge respectively.

They have ensured that they sit just five points adrift of safety ahead of a trip to a relegation rival, victory here having the potential to kick-start their campaign.

Martin Woods is the man responsible for the upturn in fortunes having recently been placed in interim charge, the veteran midfielder currently putting himself in the frame to be handed the reins on a permanent basis.

Team News

With Dion Kelly-Evans being withdrawn early in the second half versus Halifax, the Woking skipper will need to be assessed ahead of this game.

Matt Ward could return to the team on the right-hand side of defence or midfield, while Lewis Walker may potentially be introduced in the attack.

Woods may be prepared to select the same Boston XI that battled their way to a point versus Dagenham & Redbridge.

Billy Chadwick contributed an assist on his first appearance since joining on loan from York City and should retain his place in attack.

Woking possible starting lineup: Jaaskelainen; Ward, Odusina, Dyche, Chicksen; Moss, Gorman, Beautyman, Andrews; Walker, Stretton

Boston United possible starting lineup: Stone; Rowe, Richards, Mills, Green; Bostwick, Hill, Ward, Maguire; Chadwick, Hazel

We say: Woking 2-1 Boston United

Boston have shown signs in recent games that they are capable of getting back into the mix with regards to safety. Nevertheless, Woking have been competitive in all their recent defeats, leading us to predict a home win by the odd goal in three.
