Report: James Perch close to Wigan Athletic move

Wigan Athletic are reportedly close to securing the signing of Newcastle United midfielder James Perch.

The 27-year-old, who can play in a variety of positions, made 38 appearances for the Magpies last season, scoring one goal in the process.

However, according to the Newcastle Chronicle, Wigan have agreed a £1m fee with Newcastle as Latics boss Owen Coyle prepares his squad for the Championship campaign ahead.

A number of Championship clubs are also reported to be monitoring proceedings.
